The Twenty-Second Boys originated on Chicago's Southside in the vicinity of 22ndpl. & California in the Pilsen community. In the early 1970's, the Twenty-Second Boys title was derived from 22nd street, that being the gangs original stronghold which is also known as Cermak Road. In the mid 1970's the group earned a reputation in the Pilsen neighborhood and began to develop ties with members of other organizations including the Satan Disciples, Ambrose, and Two-Six street gangs. During these developments, the moniker of "Two-Two Boys" emerged as a common alias for the gang, and eventually the moniker was adopted by the group as their superior gang title. By the late 1970's, the Two-Two Boys began to encounter conflicts with rival neighborhood gangs, such as the Latin Kings, Stone Kents, Cullerton Deuces, and Villalobos street gangs. In the Pilsen neighborhood the Two-Two Boys have always been surrounded by the Latin Kings from the West and South. In the early 1980's the Two-Two Boys joined the Folks alliance; however some argue the claim that this was by "blessings" of the Satan Disciples or Ambrose street gang. The Two-Two Boys and Ambrose street gang are commonly referred to as "1st-Cousins" on the streets. In the early 1980's the Two-Two Boys expanded their operations into the nearby Chicagoland suburb of Cicero. The Two-Two Boys grew at a rapid pace in Cicero, recruiting in large numbers to combat pre-existing Cicero organizations, such as the Noble Knights, Arch Dukes, and 12th Street Players street gangs. Throughout the 1980's the Noble Knights and Two-Two Boys presence grew to dominate the entire suburb, and a historical battle was fought to seize control of Cicero. By the early 1990's the Two-Two Boys were recognized as a well established street gang, having solidified their stronghold on Chicago's Southside for decades and dominerring their operations in Cicero. As the Two-Two Boys began to exercise more independently within the Folks alliance, the group started to have fall-outs with associated gangs, such as the Satan Disciples, Cullerton Deuces, Gangster Two-Six, and later the Insane Majestics.
In 1991, the Two-Two Boys and Ambrose initiated a gang war against the Satan Disciples and La Raza street gangs, however over the years the Two-Two Boys have had off-and-on relationships with the Satan Disciples. The Two-Two Boys and Satan Disciples war escalated when the Insane Majestics, who were an ally to the Two-Two Boys street gang opted to join in alliance under the umbrella of the Satan Disciples street gang. The Two-Two Boys and Insane Majestics engaged in a turf war along the 31st street corridor, in which many lives were lost on both sides. During this time, the Gangster Two-Six street gang were growing at a tremendous pace in the suburb of Cicero, specifically in the area of the Parkholme Projects where the Two-Two Boys once held a strong presence. The Gangster Two-Six and Two-Two Boys engaged in a fierce turf war in which many lives were also lost on both sides. However, after high-ranking members were killed or incarcerated, the Two-Two Boys were forced to abandon their operations in the Parkhome area, in which the Gangster Two-Six gained control over. The war between the Two-Two Boys and Gangster Two-Six was significant to the decline in operations in Cicero for the Two-Two Boys. While the Two-Two Boys main focus was on turf wars and turmoil within their organization, the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang took the initiative to expand their operations into nearby Two-Two territory. Some members of the previous Parkholme Two-Two Boys had ties to members of the Maniac Latin Disciples on the Northwest side of Chicago. After conflicts soon arose, a settlement was agreed between the groups, that the Maniac Latin Disciples were to control one intersection area within the Two-Two Boys territory. Over a couple number of years the Maniac Latin Disciples were able to recruit in Cicero and form a moderate sized membership. In 1997, the Maniac Latin Disciples were large enough to take action against any opposing organization in Cicero, and the Two-Two Boys became the principle target. The Two-Two Boys have fought numerous street gangs consistently in Cicero. By 2002, the Two-Two Boys membership in Cicero was at an all-time minimum. The organization was in the final results of key incarcerations, leadership conflicts, and newer emerging gangs in the suburb of Cicero.
The Two-Two Boys street gang have gone through many transitional periods of development throughout their history. Though the Two-Two Boys presence seemed to fade in the suburb of Cicero, in more recent events, possibly under the leadership of Willy Hernandez, the Two-Two Boys recruited successfully and have reasserted their operations in the suburb of Cicero. The Two-Two Boys have had a solidified presence in their original stronghold on 22nd street for over four decades in the Pilsen neighborhood. Many members of the organization have embarked on more modern chapters in various Southwest Chicagoland suburbs. The Two-Two Boys have had many enemies over the years and remain bitter rivals with the majority of them today. The Two-Two Boys principle enemies consist of the Latin Kings, Latin Counts, Satan Disciples, Cullerton Deuces, Gangster Two-Six, La Raza, Maniac Latin Disciples, Gangster Disciples, Latin Angels, 12st Street Players, Noble Knights, Saints, and Simon City Royals.
