Maniac Latin Disciples Nation Maniac Latin Disciples Nation is a Folks Mob made up of mostly latinos. Their colors are Light Blue & Black Their symbols include a Heart w/Horns & Tail, Pitchforks, Monks, backwards Swastika (symbolizing "Young Future"), 6 point Star. Their founder is Hitler. The Maniac Latin Disciples are second largest Latino street gang in Chicago and the largest Latino street gang in the Folks alliance. Originally known as the Latin Scorpions, the gang was founded by Albert "Hitler" Hernandez in the Humboldt Park community in approximately 1966. The Latin Scorpions immediately engaged in battles with the Latin Kings street gang in the Humboldt Park neighborhoods. In 1970, Hitler was killed by members of the Latin Kings, which would eventually serve as the principle reason of hatred between the two organizations. After the death of Hitler, several other high-ranking members of the gang filled the void, including "Diablo" and "Chi-Chi". In 1972, the Latin Scorpions established a relationship with the Black Gangster Disciples within the correctional facilities and in result the Latin Scorpions were granted permission to change their gangs title and identity to the Latin Disciples Nation. The Latin Disciples emerged on the streets as a young Latino organization in prospects to grow and combat rival gangs in the area and city, especially the Latin Kings during this time. In the mid 1970's, the Latin Disciples formed an alliance among few Latino gangs on the streets known as the United Latino Organization (ULO), which included the Spanish Cobras, Imperial Gangsters, and Latin Eagles street gang's. In 1978, the Latin Disciples were among the first organizations to join the Folks alliance. The Latin Disciples began to grow more significantly on Chicago's Northwest side in early 1980's. In the early 1980's, Fernando "Fernie" Zayas assumed leadership of the organization and began to incorporate the "Maniac" moniker into the gangs title. Eventually the Maniac prefix was adopted permanently to the gangs title to hold a symbolic significance to the organization. In August of 1983, Fernie was incarcerated on murder charges and sentenced to serve life in prison. Fernie currently resides in the Tamms maximum security prison where he is said to been able to control a portion of the gangs day-to-day activity. In the mid 1980's, the Maniac Latin Disciples began to grow at a very rapid pace, setting up several bases of operations throughout the North and West sides of the city. Throughout the 1980's, the Maniac Latin Disciples continued to grow and establish strongholds in parts of the Northwest side while engaging in numerous territorial gang wars with several street gang's. In the early 1990's, certain factions broke away from Fernie's control and began to feud with eachother. In the early 1990's, the Maniac Latin Disciples also formed the "Maniac Family", a group of allied Latino Folks gang's aside the umbrella of the Maniac Latin Disciples in the prisons and on the streets. Among the initial organizations to join were the Maniac Campbell Boys, Milwaukee Kings, and Latin Lovers street gang's. In 1996, the Maniac Latin Disciples second-in-command, Johnny "Loco" Almodovar, was arrested on weapons charges which violated a strict parole. Loco and his cohorts declared an all out war with the Spanish Cobras street gang after a high-ranking member of the MLD's was shot in Humboldt Park. By the mid 1990's, the Maniac Latin Disciples were one of the largest and well organized street gangs that operated a presence in nearly all sectors of the Northwest side and were involved in a fierce war with the Spanish Cobras over superior control over the drug trade. In the late 1990's, the Maniac Latin Disciples began to spread their influence into the Southside of Chicago along with several Chicagoland suburbs. In 1998, federal authorities arrested several top-ranking members of the Maniac Latin Disciples on drug charges. The assumed leader of the drug ring, Thomas "Outlaw" Ross, was among this group. The drug ring conspired and spanned throughout the entire Bucktown community on Chicago's Northwest side. These arrest also played a significant role in the crippling of the organizations leadership throughout other communities. After the Maniac Latin Disciples were able to rebuild a familar leadership structure, the F.B.I. conducted an investigation and arrested another slew of top-ranking Maniac Latin Disciples on drug conspiracy charges in 2004. Among the top MLD's arrested were Fidel "Fiddle" Hernandez and Antonio "Bird" Perez. The two men were acting as the street leaders for the organization at the time of their arrest. Although even today the Maniac Latin Disciples are one of the largest and dominant street gangs in Chicago, the organization has experienced several internal feuds and leadership problems over the years. Many branches of the MLD's have broken away from Fernie's control and some sections refuse to settle their conflicts peacefully with eachother. Today is suspected that the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang is divided into three large factions. The Maniac Latin Disciples have been an extremely violent street gang and continue to exercise a presence in the Humboldt Park, Hermosa, Logan Square, Avondale, West Town, and Gage Park communities along with several Chicagoland suburbs including Cicero. The Maniac Latin Disciples have virtually no allies on the streets outside of those allied to the Maniac Family. The Maniac Latin Disciples principle rivals have consisted of the Latin Kings, Spanish Cobras, Simon City Royals, Insane Popes, Orchestra Albany, Latin Lovers, Spanish Lords, Latin Jivers, Insane Dragons, Insane Deuces, Four Corner Hustlers, Latin Pachucos, Insane Unknowns, Latin Eagles, Ashland Vikings, Harrison Gents, Satan Disciples, Two-Two Boys, and Milwaukee Kings street gang's including on-and-off again feuds with the Imperial Gangsters street gang. |
